Teenage Girls These Days

Well, it looks like the regiment that my youngest girls obsess over is to go to Brighton for the summer. Normally I would not give a hoot; but now, Catherine and Lydia believe it is in our interest for follow them there. The summer months can be a bore, so there's a chance I would enjoy that. Nevertheless, I am not much into leaving  my home and doing anything exciting. Those silly girls will be on the subject forever.

  1. Mr. Bennet,
Allowing Lydia to run along with the militia is a poor decision. It is a shame you are not capable of making better parenting decisions. Wickham is not the man you want your daughter around; nothing good will come of it. I hope he does not take advantage of her, and I would hate to see the two of them form any sort of relationship. Going against your daughter's will is a small price to pay to keep her out of trouble. We will see what becomes of these two, Wickham and Lydia.

  2. I agree with Darcy on this one. Wickham is not fit for any of your daughters and it would unfit for you to allow your daughters to run along with the militia orr the summer. They should focus on their plans for marriage.

  3. Mr. Bennet,
Let them go! They are young. At least they'll have a chance at marrying unlike your second eldest who rudely refused my nephew. All of your girls are... tolerable. Any boy would be lucky to gain one as a wife. I mean, look at your cousin- Collins! He's considerably happy with Charlotte because those two were simply made for each other. I suggest one of your daughters find somebody soon before an unfortunate event occurs that will force them out of your place. So there- let the two youngest go.

  4. Father, it's understandable why Lydia and Kitty would want to go, they have been obsessing over the militia, as you said. Perhaps this wouldn't be a great family trip, but at least let the two of them go. They would be very happy indeed, and they could stay with Mrs. Forster. They could also spend some time with each other out of the house, and it would be a new experience for them.

  6. Agreeing with Mr. Darcy, the decision to let Lydia roam Brighton with Wickham is absolutely insane! Lydia has no sense & Wickham is not a man whom Lydia should have any part with. If their relationship is unsuccessful, you are to blame, Mr. Bennet, for you have been warned.
